2002 Ford Explorer Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the vacuum brake booster on 2002 Ford Explorer?
A: The vacuum brake booster service requires removal of the brake master cylinder and power brake booster hose disconnection using a compressed clamp. During brake booster push rod removal from the brake pedal you must be vigilant because the brake pedal return spring will lift the pedal up. First disconnect the brake pedal to power brake booster push rod through removing the self-locking pin followed by removing the stoplight switch and brake booster push rod from the brake pedal pin and then completing the brake booster push rod bushing removal. Provide support to the power brake booster while you extract it from its place then remove the power brake booster nuts followed by the power brake booster itself. New nuts must be used during the brake booster reinstallation process following the reverse order of the removal steps.
