Ford introduced the LTD Crown Victoria in 1980 as its flagship full-size sedan, produced until 1991, following the discontinuation of the LTD Landau model. When the LTD Landau ceased production and the Ford LTD Crown Victoria became its successor while retaining much of its initial manufacturing design until the end of production. The Ford LTD Crown Victoria was available with two V8 engine options: a 5.0L V8 producing approximately 130 horsepower and a 5.8L V8 delivering 150 horsepower. Both engines were typically paired with the C6 3-speed automatic transmission, though the C4 transmission was used with smaller engines. Ford upgraded their fuel efficiency in 1981 by standardizing the V8 engine with smaller displacement as well as adding a 4.2L engine generating 120 horsepower. Electronic central fuel injection technology was introduced to the 4.9L V8 engine as part of improved performance development. In 1982 the AOD transmission interface took over from the past 3-speed automatic thus improving the driving experience of the Ford LTD Crown Victoria. Both the Panther chassis and suspension system consisting of independent front links and rear coil springs provided strong construction for comfort during rides. Front wheels of the Ford LTD Crown Victoria used vented disc brakes while drum brakes operated in the rear which resulted in improved braking safety together with better control. Genuine Ford components continued to strengthen the Ford LTD Crown Victoria during its evolution while keeping it attractive to customers. Ford dedicates itself to sustaining the integrity of the LTD Crown Victoria through their strict quality control measures for OEM parts thus earning broad preference from fleet operators and enthusiasts.
