The first step for alternator servicing and repair requires disconnecting the battery ground cable. Remove the generator drive belt from the generator pulley after you loosen its tension. The alternate harness connection point should be detached from the generator bracket before placing it off to the side. Begin by removing the bolts from the A/C line bracket and power steering pressure line bracket as well as the generator bolt and put the generator bracket to one side. Disconnect and remove the generator along with its bolts by detaching the two electrical connectors followed by removing the battery positive nut and washer and disconnecting the battery positive cable. The opposite order should be performed when reinstalling all components. A vehicle will show irregular drive behavior after battery disconnect and reconnect because it needs to relearn its adaptive strategy during which the vehicle should be driven for at least 16 kilometers (10 miles).
