Service of the A/C accumulator requires starting with the vehicle on a hoist with the gear selector set at NEUTRAL. Recover refrigerant from the system before removing each required component according to the sequence. The refrigerant compressor oil F73Z-19577-AA (Motorcraft YN-9-A) serves exclusively for lubricating R-134a system O-ring seals but cannot be used as compressor lubricating oil in the refrigerant system. The correct lubricant for A/C compressor needs is PAG refrigerant compressor oil F7AZ-19D589-DA (Motorcraft YN-12-C) or its equivalent which matches Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B. The replacement of an A/C accumulator unit becomes necessary when physical signs show contamination from a failed A/C compressor or A/C accumulator damage occurs. The reconnection phase requires new O-ring seals treated with clean mineral oil before installing them onto all disconnecting A/C fittings. For completing the installation, follow removal steps in reverse and use the right amount of clean PAG oil to lubricate the refrigerant system before conducting an evacuation, leak test, and charging the system.

It is limited to lubricating R-134a refrigerant system O-ring seals and should not be added to the R-134a refrigerant system as an A/C compressor lubricant.
