    Q:
How to service and repair the spindle on Ford Escort? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair activities for the spindle should begin with wheel hub removal. Spare drum brakes require removing the brake backing plate from the vehicle while disc brakes need the removal of their rear wheel disc brake shield. The procedure for disc brakes requires removal of all bolts which secure the rear wheel disc brake shield. Vehicle owners should detach the bolt connecting the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) sensor bracket when their vehicles have anti-lock brakes. You must then uninstall all nuts and bolts which hold together the lower strut and spring assembly. Rear wheel spindle repair also requires unattaching the bolt when ABS sensors are fitted to the system. First remove the rear suspension trailing link bolt and afterwards take off the rear suspension arm with its bushing that contains the rear nut (A) and front bolt (B) to remove the rear wheel spindle. A High Lift Transmission Jack should be used to lift the spindle until the suspension arms reach ground level for proper bolt tightening to specified values before returning to the removal sequence.
