- Q: How Can You Safely Depower and Repower the Air Bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) on 2001 Lincoln Town Car?A: When managing air bag modules people must wear safety glasses because this protective measure stops accidents from occurring due to unintended air bag activations. Work on any air bag module connectors should be avoided because probing them will cause deployment risk and personal harm. The depowering of SRS components needs to be performed before working on seats that contain SRS components. During ON ignition state the removal of RCM fuse F10 (10A) will trigger the air bag warning lamp illumination but this condition indicates a normal system operation. Start the process by shutting down every accessory and ignition system on the vehicle. Take out fuse F10 from the RCM in the central junction box (CJB) situated under the left instrument panel section to remove the cover. Watch for the air bag indicator through at least 30 seconds under ignition ON status; a proper fuse removal should result in continuous illumination. In case the air bag indicator does not illuminate after removing the correct fuse perform an additional check. A one minute period of depleting back up power supply demands the battery ground cable (14301) disconnect along with separation of any auxiliary batteries or power supplies when such features are present. When working on repowered systems maintain proper connection of all SRS components and remove any restraint system diagnostic tools from use. Reinstall the RCM fuse F10 into the CJB after setting the ignition switch to ON and then replace the cover. Sing a ground cable to the battery only after ensuring no personnel remains inside the car while also eliminating air bag module obstructions. Once you verify the SRS functionality perform the following steps by turning the ignition key to OFF then wait for ten seconds before turning it back to ON position. During verification of the SRS the air bag indicator remains lit continuously for six seconds until its shutdown. A fault may cause the indicator to stay off or endlessly on or flashing with possible audible warning signals. The diagnostics and repairs of SRS system faults should occur alongside the clearing of all continuous diagnostic trouble codes from the restraints control module through a scan tool.
