The repair process for the
Air Bag sliding contact must start with wearing safety glasses and orienting the air bag module with its trim cover directed away from your body to stay safe. You must maintain proper handling of alive air bag modules while transportation while also keeping them pointed upwards. The diagnostic tool of the restraint system must be taken out completely from the vehicle before it starts to drive to avoid safety risks and non-compliance conditions. A system deactivation must occur before you extract the driver air bag module. Before taking off the
Steering Wheel you must position the wheels in a straight-ahead direction (1007). Detach the upper and lower steering column shroud (3530) through screw removal before aligning and securing the Clock Spring (14A664) with tape. The disconnection of electrical connectors from the Clock Spring will expose the screws needed to remove it. Vehicles that need new Clock Springs require the key to be removed after positioning the rotor in the center to prevent rotation. When recentering the Clock Spring maintain component safety by turning the rotor clockwise until resistance occurs and releasing the counterclockwise rotation two to three-quarter turns for the center point alignment. Secure the Clock Spring onto the steering column by installing screws while directing the wire harness through its holders until electrical connector attachment can be performed. Before reusing the Clock Spring remove the tape from the coil while keeping it stationary so you can move the upper and lower steering column shrouds and install their screws. Load the steering wheel followed by the driver air bag module and activate the power system. It is essential to activate the SRS system without any defects or malfunctions prior to vehicle release.
