Starting the brake caliper service and repair requires you to detach the rear disc brake caliper as well as drain all existing brake fluid. Secure the caliper in a vise while you remove the rear disc brake piston by inserting a block of wood between caliper bridge and piston then releasing a low amount of air pressure from the fluid port to push out the piston. Install a new caliper because it is impossible to service a cylinder bore without pistons while the bore is too damaged to warrant caliper replacement. When assembling the brake system use fresh components for the piston seal and dust boot while avoiding the use of drained brake fluid. Lubricate the cylinder bore along with the piston seal and rear brake disc piston and dust boot by using Ford High Performance DOT 3 Motor Vehicle Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or an equivalent DOT 3 fluid meeting Ford specification ESA-M6C25-A; alternatively use DOT 4 Brake Fluid meeting Ford specification SAE-J1704-DOT 4. Put the piston seal together with the dust boot while taking care to preserve their condition before adding the rear brake disc piston to install the rear disc brake caliper.

Ensure the electrical power to the air suspension system is turned off to prevent unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs.

Reinstall the wheel and tire assembly, fill the brake master cylinder reservoir with the appropriate brake fluid, install the filler cap, and inspect the brake system operation.

Reactivate the air suspension system if equipped by turning on the air suspension switch.
