    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Rear Drive Shaft on All on Lincoln Navigator? Posted by Customer
    A:
All service repairs on the rear driveshaft require disablement of the air suspension electrical power by operating the air suspension switch at the rear jack storage point. This prevents unexpected air spring inflation or deflation hazards that might shift the vehicle during work. Position the vehicle to the hoist in NEUTRAL position. Index-marking should be done between the 4WD driveshaft flange with pinion flange and between driveshaft slip yoke and transmission extension housing. Remove and discard the four driveshaft flange bolts before using a suitable tool to disconnect the driveshaft from the pinion flange without using any hammering techniques. Depositing tape on the transmission output shaft will establish its position relative to the transmission extension housing. Two-wheel-drive vehicles need a driveshaft index-mark for alignment along with the removal and disposal of driveshaft flex-coupler-to-flange nuts and bolts and driveshaft flange bolts. The driveshaft center bearing bolts and pinion flange disconnect the driveshaft according to the previous guidelines before eliminating the driveshaft while discarding these bolts. The installation of driveshaft slip yoke requires accurate alignment of index marks before putting it into position within the transmission extension housing. Use Threadlock and Sealer on original bolts which remain for use and tighten the driveshaft flange bolts evenly in a cross pattern to 112 Nm (83 ft. lbs.). To mount the driveshaft on 2WD vehicles use hand torque twice to secure the driveshaft center bearing bolts before tightening them to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Three new flex-coupler-to-flange assembly bolts along with nuts must be installed and their nuts tightened to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). Check the driveshaft flange position on the pinion flange using four bolts tightened equally in perpendicular order to 112 Nm (83 ft. lbs.). If original bolts remain install Threadlock and Sealer on them.
