Evaporator Core

Service of the A/C evaporator core starts with battery disconnection followed by performing the Refrigerant Discharging and Recovery Procedure. The A/C vacuum line requires disconnecting before accessing all ports to stop dirt and moisture contamination. The next step requires employees to disconnect the rear condenser to evaporator line spring lock coupling followed by the removal of suction line support clip retaining nuts and suction line spring lock coupling disconnect. All ports need to remain plugged during this process. First disconnect the push pin and screw to remove the RH windshield defroster nozzle connector and then detaching the A/C evaporator outlet duct clamp bolt. Begin by disconnecting the electric connector of the A/C blower motor plus the vacuum control motor vacuum connector and remove the vacuum lines from the A/C evaporator housing retainer. Detach the A/C evaporator housing nuts while disconnecting its vacuum line and unthreading the screws of the A/C vacuum reservoir tank with its bracket and the two inlet duct door vacuum control motor retaining nuts. First remove the push nut and vacuum control motor then proceed to unfasten screws for the air inlet duct, blower motor and heater blower motor switch resistor. The last phase requires removal of the evaporator tube dash panel seal and the drain tube dash panel seal. The installation procedure starts with servicing the new A/C evaporator core using PAG Compressor Oil YN-12-C which satisfies Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B followed by installation of evaporator tube dash panel seal and drain tube dash panel seal while heater blower motor switch resistor and blower motor and air inlet duct and inlet duct door vacuum control motor should be installed in the proper order. You must secure the push nut to the inlet duct door lever before installing the A/C vacuum reservoir tank with bracket and the A/C evaporator housing where you need to tighten the bolt. You need to attach vacuum lines to the A/C evaporator housing retainer before connecting the vacuum control motor vacuum connector while also reattaching the RH windshield defroster nozzle connector. The installation process requires reattaching the instrument panel while connecting the rear condenser to evaporator line together with suction line spring lock couplings before reattaching the A/C vacuum line and ground cable connection for A/C system leak tests.

The evaporator core is serviced only with the evaporator core housing assembly, as it is not separately serviceable.

Installation of a new suction accumulator is unnecessary unless there is physical evidence of system contamination from a failed A/C compressor or damage to the suction accumulator.
