The first step for servicing the fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors is to keep away from open flames and smoking in the area because flammable mixtures will be found near fuel components. It is essential to purge fuel system pressure before disconnecting any lines that carry fuel. Service and repair of the fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors can start after disconnecting the battery ground cable and draining some of the engine cooling system. The service and repair of the fuel injection supply manifold and fuel injectors begins with removing the air cleaner outlet pipe followed by disconnecting the EGR valve vacuum hose and the evaporative emission canister purge valve hose and the fuel pressure regulator valve vacuum hose. As the next step remove the crankcase ventilation tube and the power steering reservoir upper bracket. Disconnect the fuel tubes first then introduce tubing plugs to avoid leakage before proceeding to separate the eight ignition coil and fuel injector electrical connectors and the fuel hose spring lock couplings. You need to disconnect EGR vacuum regulator solenoid connections together with IAC valve and TP sensor electrical connectors before removing brake booster vacuum tube and bracket as well as PCV hose and heated throttle body hose for 4.6L engines. User should disconnect the exhaust manifold to EGR valve tube fittings together with the heater hose. A service engineer should remove the IAC valve fresh air tube while disconnecting the IAC electrical connector from 5.4L engines along with the differential pressure feedback EGR system electrical connector before taking out the brake booster bracket and tube. Position the heated PCV hose harness to the side before disconnecting the PCV hose that extends from the throttle body adapter and intake manifold to remove the PCV valve. Remove the fuel injection supply manifold and injectors by first disconnecting the climate control vacuum connector and secondly releasing vacuum hoses along with wiring harnesses. The injector O-ring seals must be inspected for damage and they should be replaced when necessary while cleansed engine oil serves to lubricate new seals before installation. Start with fuel injector installation into the manifold before placing it into position and tightening it with four bolts. Connect the climate control vacuum connector after attaching the exhaust manifold to EGR valve tube and heater hose. Also install the differential pressure feedback EGR system electrical connector. Connect the heated throttle body hose followed by installing the PCV hose then hooking up the brake booster vacuum tube together with the bracket. The cross-connection of heated PCV hose harnesses requires installation of the PCV valve before tubing the PCV hose to both intake manifold and throttle body adapter in 5.4L engines. After installing the EGR valve tube with the exhaust manifold you must attach the differential pressure feedback EGR system hoses then hook up the IAC-valve electrical connector and put the IAC-valve fresh air tube in place. Connec the eight fuel injectors and ignition coils followed by securing fuel hose spring locks and reattaching the power steering reservoir top bracket along with attaching the crankcase tube and vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator valve and evaporative canister purge valve and the air cleaner pipe. The procedure must include reconnecting the battery ground wire and following the instructions for engine cooling system filling along with bleeding procedures.
