Heater Core

Service of the heater core starts with draining engine coolant from the system. Perform a leak test first to detect leaks especially when the removal process is scheduled. The heater core requires detachment of heater water hoses before you remove the instrument panel. Start by taking away the antenna lead from the heater core housing before cutting the vacuum control motor vacuum connector loose. The vacuum lines must be extracted from the A/C evaporator housing retainer before removing the windshield defroster nozzle connectors through pin-type retainers and screws. First loosen the screw securing the A/C evaporator outlet duct then remove the retaining nut and retaining upper nuts of the heater core housing. Finally remove the housing. Remove the heater dash panel seal first and then follow it with screws before extracting the heater core cover and actually removing the heater core. The installation process requires following removal steps in reverse order while applying MERPOL(R) according to Ford specification ESE-M99B144-B or plain water as a substitute for lubrication to the coolant hoses.

Loosen the A/C evaporator outlet duct clamp screw.

Remove the windshield defroster nozzle connectors, pin-type retainers, and screws.

Ensure the water valve is open (no vacuum).
