Caliper Assembly, Passenger Side

A technician should begin brake caliper service by separating the brake caliper from its vehicle position. Before removing the caliper piston users must set blocking material either as wood or shop rags between the components to protect the piston's structure. The caliper housing requires compressed air to extract the caliper piston which needs to be removed with the dust seal and piston seal before discarding both components. Look for damage on both the caliper piston and piston bore then consider replacing the piston when needed. Installation requires application of High Performance Dot 3 Brake Fluid C6AZ-19542-AB or a matched specification Dot 3 brake fluid according to Ford specifications ESA-M6C25-A for lubricating the caliper piston bore along with its seals and piston assembly. The piston seal must be installed initially in the bore groove before installing the new dust seal onto the caliper piston. Before the brake caliper receives the caliper bore secure the dust seal properly. This process must be accomplished after careful insertion of the caliper piston into its bore.

Carefully install the caliper piston into the caliper bore without scratching or damaging it.

Fully retract the brake disc caliper piston.

Begin by loosening the wheel nuts and raising the vehicle to support it securely.

Remove the piston and discard the dust seal and piston seal.
