Upper Ball Joint

The service of upper ball joints requires beginning with lifting the vehicle onto a hoist while removing both tires and wheels. Position a jack stand under the suspension lower arm before removing the nut and pinch bolt as well as discarding the nut. Take note of the alignment cam position against the suspension upper arm to use as guidance during reinstallation. The service starts with removing the nuts followed by alignment cams together with the ball joint where all nuts end up in the waste bin. When reinstalling the alignment cams restore their position according to the reference marks that were created at removal time. Torque prevailing nuts attached to the ball joint and upper arm and spindle need replacement because they cannot be reused. The reinstall process must be carried out in reverse order while checking wheel alignment then adjusting it if needed.
