Service begins with removing the door trim panel after which the wiring harness cover plate then the access hole plug must be taken out. To reach the window glass clamp bolts you need to reduce the window opening enough for access through the access holes when the window regulator motor fails to operate. Disconnect the door latch cable retainers by loosening the clamp bolt on the B-pillar and tighten it back to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) when reinstalling. After loosening the A-pillar window glass clamp bolt put it back to 6 Nm (53 lb-in) tightness when installing the component. Fitting of a window tape allows the regulator to reach its track-stops at the regulator's bottom. First remove the front door speaker entirely before taking out and placing aside the interior door handle bolt. Proceed with disconnecting both wiring harness retainers and the door latch electrical connector and additionally remove the keyless entry keypad connector and door lock electrical connector and power mirror electrical connector. Tighten the window regulator motor electrical connector to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft) before reinstalling it. At the same time remove the 10 door module bolts. The front door module must be removed and essential parts should be moved to a replacement module. The installation should be finished by following reversal of the removal method with initialization of new LH or RH front window motors for MKZ models and subsequent initialization of the original motor.

The first step to service the front door window motor on the MKZ includes removing door trim panel while disconnecting window motor electrical connector. Secure the glass in its position with tape afterward you can eliminate the three screws that maintain the window motor and pull out the motor itself. Initiation of the motor stands as a critical step during install of new left-hand (LH) or right-hand (RH) front window motors. Before reusing the front window motor you must perform a de-initialization process which needs to be followed by motor initialization. Depending on how the installation proceeds revert to the opposite steps from removal to finish the operation.

The procedure to initialize LH or RH front window motors requires a proper installation and tightening of all components including window glass along with window regulator and window motor as well as seals and glass top run. Without initialization operability of a new or de-initialized front window motor is limited to proportional UP DOWN functions together with one-touch-DOWN until completion of the initialization process. A window switch replacement should proceed only after the system initialization process finishes. Unfinished initialization procedures will prevent the motor from entering initialization state which means it will operate in proportional UP/DOWN modes alongside one-touch-DOWN feature and no additional functions. The excessive window bouncing during operation could signal a required de-initialization process. The de-initialization must take place after installing new window regulators and motors and new window glass in addition to any window system lubrication applications. The procedure to de-initialize requires turning the ignition key to the ON position before using one-touch mode to operate the window control switch while simultaneously interrupting power to the moving motor by either disconnecting the vehicle battery cable or taking out the window motor connector or fusing the motor. The procedure requires the motor to return to its default factory configuration. When initializing the system start by opening the window completely and turn the ignition key to ON before maintaining UP position on the control switch to reach the 2-second stall point at the glass top then proceed to the 2-second stall at the bottom while holding the switch in DOWN position. Verify proper operation of the one-touch-UP and one-touch-DOWN features through final testing of the system.
