Transmission Pan

The first step to work on the fluid pan, gasket and filter requires the vehicle to remain in the NEUTRAL gear while situated on a hoist. To ensure fluid drain the fluid fill plug fluid level indicator assembly should be removed from the passenger side front section of the transmission case to lower atmospheric pressure that could prevent the fluid pan extraction. The procedure starts with draining the transmission fluid before removing the fluid pan gasket alongside the transmission fluid filter. The technician should inspect the transmission fluid pan along with its magnet for cleanliness. A new transmission fluid filter together with its seal assembly should be installed during repairs for contamination-related failure but otherwise the filter can stay if no significant contamination is detected. Thoroughly check the transmission case for the fluid filter seal and gently remove it but avoid scratching the case surface. The new filter requires automatic transmission fluid as lubrication before its installation. The magnet needs installation in the fluid pan and the gasket can be reused when it shows no damage but replacement installation is required if the gasket is damaged. Follow up the fluid pan installation by screwing bolts evenly across their pattern until they achieve a torque of 14 Nm (10 lb-ft). The appropriate refill procedure enables you to both fill and check the transmission fluid.

Position the magnet back in the fluid pan and install a new gasket if the old one is damaged; otherwise, the gasket can be reused.
