Catalytic Converter

A correct servicing process begins by disconnecting heated oxygen sensors at the wiring harness to avoid damage before proceeding to disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) electrical connector. Support the vehicle while raising it above the floor then disconnect the downstream catalyst monitor sensor (CMS) electrical connector. Service of the exhaust converter begins with separating it from the exhaust manifold through nut removal and gasket disposal then continuing with disconnection between converter and muffler inlet pipe by removing more nuts before disposing of the gasket. Detach the crossmember when you remove the bolts before removing it from its place. Chase away the three-way catalyst by unscrewing the bracket bolts before removing the catalyst. Checking and replacing the three-way catalytic converter becomes necessary before installation because of inspections made to identify cracks, weld breakages and corrosive damage that may result in exhaust system leaks. New exhaust converter gaskets should be used between the exhaust manifold and three-way catalyst and between the three-way catalyst and muffler inlet pipe. The installation ends by following the steps for removal in reverse order.

Use a new exhaust converter inlet gasket between the three-way catalyst and exhaust manifold, and a new exhaust converter outlet gasket between the three-way catalyst and the muffler inlet pipe.
