    Q:
How to service and repair the power steering pump on Ford Escort? Posted by Customer
    A:
The power steering pump service requires battery ground cable disconnection as the first step. Start the procedure by disconnecting the radiator overflow tube before placing it to the side. Detach the bolt together with the A/C hose clamp before unfastening the speed control actuator cable from the A/C hose bracket to remove the A/C hose bracket. Start by raising the vehicle and supporting it before disconnecting both (A) bolts along with (B) RH lower splash shield. The power steering tensioner bolt receives clockwise rotation for accessory drive belt removal as technicians disconnect the power steering pressure hose attached to the power steering pump. Lower the vehicle while disconnecting the power steering pressure hoses between each other. First remove the power steering pressure hose bracket bolts before putting the brackets to the side. Detach the Heated Oxygen Sensor (H02S) electrical connection while performing bolt removal of the engine block ground bracket. First disconnect the return hose from the pump before raising the car once more to replace the pressure hose. The four power steering pump installation bolts need removal along with the disposal of the power steering pump heat shield. Secure new teflon seal 388898-S to the power steering pressure hose fittings before installation as part of hose connection while cleaning threads from all debris. First install four bolts into the power steering pump before putting on the new power steering pump heat shield. Lower the car till the position of power steering hose then join the power steering return hose to the power steering pump. Reinstall the bolts to anchor the engine block ground bracket in place before you join the HO2S electrical connector. After the power steering pressure hoses receive proper alignment, complete their connection then proceed to mount the supported vehicle during the hose-to-pump installation. Position the accessory drive belt under the pressure of turning the tensioner bolt clockwise before you install the RH lower splash shield and its associated bolts. Install the power steering pressure hose brackets after lowering the vehicle while making sure to put them in correct positions before installing the bolts. Install the bolt into the A/C hose bracket before placing the speed control actuator cable inside the bracket to install its clamp bolt. To complete installation, the radiator overflow tube requires reconnection followed by battery ground cable connection while understanding that battery disconnect and reconnect may cause temporary abnormal drive behavior until the adaptive strategy relearning process finishes through driving 16 km (10 mi) or longer.

    Q:
How to Address Issues with the Power Steering Pump on a Ford Escort? Posted by Customer
    A:
The power steering pump servicing begins with removing both the power steering pump reservoir and power steering pump pulley. Before starting raise the vehicle and use supporting tools to access the right-hand lower splash shield bolts along with the six mounting screws. The power steering pressure hose requires separation followed by lowering the vehicle. Serious service and repair of the power steering pump requires you to loosen the clamp connecting the reservoir hose to power steering pump while removing all three pump mounting bolts. The Power Steering Pump Pulley Remover should be used for removing power steering pump pulley hub connections as needed. The Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacer helps users mount the power steering pump pulley hub when required before placing and bolting the power steering pump in position. Fasten the power steering reservoir pump hose by tightening its clamp. After vehicle support raise the operators must place a new Teflon seal (part number 388898-S) onto the power steering pressure hose fitting before rebuilding the hose connection. First lower the vehicle after reinstalling the right-hand lower splash shield and then follow with attachment of the power steering pump pulley and power steering pump reservoir. The final task involves filling the power steering system.
