    Q:
How to Service and Repair a Brake Disc on Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
A front disc brake caliper anchor plate removal should be the first step when servicing or repairing the brake rotor/disc. During maintenance of 4x4 vehicles technicians must extract the brake disc. The service on 4x2 vehicles starts with hub grease cap removal followed by cotter pin and then the nut retainer, spindle nut, front wheel outer bearing retainer washer along with the outer front wheel bearing before final brake disc and hub extraction. The second task involves removing both the wheel hub grease seal and the front wheel bearing from the system. AWD and 4x4 vehicles require installation of the brake disc onto the wheel hub followed by cleaning it with Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F3AZ-19579-SA or equivalent blades. During 4x2 wheel bearing service the technician will need to clean the front wheel bearings and brake disc and hub with premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or-K or equivalent Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B. Subsequently install new wheel hub grease seals before adding the inner front wheel bearing followed by another new seal. After positioning the brake disc and hub you should install the outer front wheel bearing together with the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer and the spindle nut. Tighten the spindle nut while rotating the brake disc alongside the hub before loosening it and performing another tightening procedure with rotational movement. 4x2 vehicle maintenance requires installation of nut retainer combined with cotter pin and hub grease cap. The installation process ends with reinstallation of the front disc brake caliper anchor plate.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Brake Disc on Ford Explorer? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair of the brake rotor/disc requires starting with removal of the front disc brake caliper support bracket. A proper match-mark of both hub and brake disc must occur before performing brake disc removal. A hub-mount brake lathe should be used if needed to machine the brake disc and you must measure it for proper resurfacing or get a new brake disc if it exceeds specifications. Install the brake disc onto the wheel hub afterward cleanse it with Metal Brake Parts Cleaner F6AZ-2C410-AB or a substitute solution. Apply High Temperature Nickel Anti-Seize Lubricant F6A-Z-9IA94-AA or a material equivalent to Ford specification ESE-Ml2A4-A on the hub mounting surface before aligning the brake disc on the hub according to the match-marks. Reinstall the front disc brake caliper support bracket as the last step of installation.
