Starting the Taurus and Sable 40 percent rear seat backrest cover servicing begins with removing the 40 percent seat backrest. The first step requires pushing the head restraint adjust button toward you to free the head restraint assembly. The J-clip at the bottom of the backrest trim cover should be released so you can remove the hook-and-loop strips on the back side of the trim cover. The service procedure requires bushing removal with precision to maintain the hook-and-loop strip attachment between the seat backrest foam and the trim cover. You should first release the hook-and-loop straps then turn over the backrest trim cover before removing the three sets of hog rings while the cover faces the head restraint guide. Use the backrest trim cover to pull the latch release strap before lifting the backrest foam pad to pinch the head restraint guide and take out both guides. To install the new backrest cover the reverse steps from removal must be followed.

Remove the screw, release the tab, and take off the floor latch cover, noting that for bench seats, two floor latch covers must be removed.
