Range Sensor

The Digital Transmission Range (TR) Sensor requires that you detach the battery ground cable as your first step. Start by disconnecting the air cleaner outlet tube before removing the shift cable and bracket nut as well as the control cable front clamp. Before proceeding, remove first the manual control lever nut and its accompanying manual control lever. The service procedure involves first disconnecting the TR sensor electrical connector before removing TR sensor bolts to take out the TR sensor. Installation requires transmission neutral positioning and match of sensor marks with the manual control lever while using hand torque on mounting bolts. Test for ohmmeter continuity between terminal F and terminal 1 when adjusting the TR sensor by rotating its housing through the manual control lever until continuity is established. Tighten the TR sensor bolts as you maintain the switch position before reconnecting the TR sensor electrical connector. Apply manual control lever nut tightening per specifications before adding shift cable bracket and nut components while keeping shift cable adjustment steps in mind. Re-establish the placement of the air cleaner outlet tube. The vehicle might show unexpected driving behavior during this learning process after battery disconnect and reconnection which could need at least 16 km (10 miles) of driving time. Complete the procedure by reattaching the battery ground cable.

Professional servicing of the Neutral Safety Switch should begin by lifting and stabilizing the vehicle. You should disconnect the connector and remove the PNP switch while discarding the gasket during this process. After reversal of the removal steps install the PNP switch with a new gasket.

Reconnect the battery ground cable.

Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.

Tighten the TR sensor bolts while holding the switch in place, then reconnect the TR sensor electrical connector.
