2000 Ford Escort Steering Knuckle Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the steering knuckle on 2000 Ford Escort?
A: Service and repair operations of the steering knuckle start with disc brake rotor removal. Lift slowly on the stake of the front axle wheel hub retainer then remove the retainer from the axle. The tie rod end detaches from the front wheel knuckle when you remove the tie rod end nut and cotter pin along with a Tie Rod End Separator. Service the steering knuckle by removing first the anti-lock brake wire bracket bolt together with bracket before moving onto separate bolts secured to the front anti-lock brake sensor while it goes to the side. The front suspension lower arm ball joint requires removal of nut and pinch bolt to divide its attachment from front wheel knuckle. First remove nuts and bolts holding the strut and spring assembly to the front wheel knuckle followed by the strut and spring assembly separation from the knuckle to extract it. A new fastening system needs to be deployed whenever you separate or unfasten any existing fasteners during installation. The ball joint nut and pinch bolt threads need Threadlock 262 E2FZ-19554-B or a similar compound matching Ford specification WSK-M2G351-A6 before the reversal of removal steps to finish installation.
