2000 Ford Explorer Antenna Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the power antenna cable on 2000 Ford Explorer?
A: A power antenna cable repair starts with antenna assembly removal through unsnapping the radio antenna base cap and radio antenna nut removal. You can safely remove the antenna mast and cable from the electric antenna motor when the ignition switch is at ACC position and radio chassis ON/OFF switch is in the ON position. Put the cable inside the electric antenna motor with its teeth toward the front of the vehicle and verify that the plastic antenna drive cable has a slight taper. Replace any damaged sections in the electric antenna motor. Put the antenna inside then manually extend it before inserting the cable until you sense resistance before turning it gently left and right to fully connect it with the motor gear. The assistant should disable radio power by switching to OFF while turning the ignition switch to ACC and holding gentle downward motion on the antenna with the electric antenna motor retraction. When the motor winds the cable into the drive unit the antenna should be guided for proper alignment. Finish by adding the radio antenna nut with the base cap then use the electric antenna motor to run several repetitions for correct antenna deployment.
