2000 Lincoln Continental Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2000 Lincoln Continental?
A: Service and repair of the shift lock actuator requires starting with center console removal then detachment of ignition/shifter interlock cable from bracket and shifter interlock cam. Start by removing the panel trim from the left-hand side of the instrument board and following it up by unscrewing the steering column framework. First disconnect the electrical connector from the shift interlock before unscrewing the hardware during which you must remove the ignition/shifter interlock cable from its bracket position. Position the ignition/shifter interlock cable so you can connect it between the bracket and shifter interlock cam. The ignition/shifter interlock cable must now be set into its bracket before tightening down the ignition/shifter cable bracket. Connect the electrical connector before replacing the steering column while installing retention nuts. The last step includes fitting back the LH lower instrument panel trim while confirming that: the ignition key becomes removable only in PARK position and the transaxle range selector stays locked in PARK with the key outside.
