2000 Lincoln Town Car Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the timing cover on 2000 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Before repairing or servicing the timing cover users must disconnect the battery ground cable and take off both valve covers together with the water pump. After supporting the motor vehicle with a jack you must unfasten the bolts to relocate the power steering pump temporarily to the side. The service begins with oil drain from the oil pan through the drain plug followed by four bolt removal. Start by removing the crankshaft front seal and then eliminate the bolt which also takes away the belt idler pulley and its accompanying bolts and stud bolts in order to detach the engine front cover from its dowel position on the front-cover-to-cylinder-block. The engine front cover needs to receive the sealant removal and the sealing area needs cleaning with Metal Surface Cleaner F4AZ-19A536-RA or an equivalent to Ford specification WSE-MSB392-A followed by drying until wetness disappears or four minutes passes whichever takes longer to stop future oil leakage. The installation requires application of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or equivalent product that satisfies the Ford standard WSE-M4G323-A4 along the cylinder head-to-block surface and oil pan-to-cylinder block surface. The front cover needs to sit on its dowel before installing the fasteners loosely. The proper tightening sequence involves two steps for the front-covers bolts and stud bolts which requires tightening fasteners number 1 through 7 to 20 - 30 Nm (15-22 ft. lbs.) as part of Stage 1 and moving onto Stage 2 where fasteners number 6 through 15 reach a torque of 40 - 55 Nm (29-40 ft. lbs.). Install the new engine front cover front oil seal before putting the belt idler pulley into position then securing the bolt. Fit the front oil pan bolts first and then raise the vehicle once more before tightening them during two stages at 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) and Stage 2 with an additional 60 degrees of rotation. The front lower hole of the power steering pump remains unused so position the pump before installing its bolts. After installing the oil pan drain plug users should lower the vehicle before putting on the valve covers and water pump. Find time to attach the battery ground cable after filling the engine with Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or any equivalent oil compatible with Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G.
