How to properly maintain and fix the water pump on 2001 Mercury Cougar?

In order to service and repair a water pump, remove the cooling system by draining. Next, unscrew the water pump pulley bolts and take away the accessory drive belt. Then remove the bolts of the water pump and raise the vehicle. When removing the pump, install it following the steps that are in reverse order, and then make sure to refill the cooling system.
