    A: The first step for connecting rod bearing service and repair includes removing spark plugs along with the oil pan. The oil pump screen cover along with its tube and gasket can be removed by removing two bolts before discarding the old gasket. You must remove the four nuts which will enable you to detach the oil pan baffle. The crankshaft should be turned so the connecting rod bearing removal point reaches its lowest position. Two nuts along with the connecting rod cap need to be removed before extracting the lower connecting rod bearing. A brief length of rubber tubing should be used to cover crankshaft journals in order to protect them from damage. The upper connecting rod bearing should come off after pushing the piston against the cylinder bore until there is adequate clearance. Before installing every thread must receive a light application of clean engine oil. Clearing all foreign elements from connecting rod parts including bearings and cap and rod until they are ready for use will protect the crankshaft journals from harm. The crankshaft journal needs cleaning before applying crankcase conditioner as lubricant. The upper connecting rod bearing installation requires proper alignment between its tab and the connecting rod slot together with full bearing engagement. Pull down the connecting rod bearing until it establishes full contact with the crankshaft while it remains inside the connecting rod. To install the lower connecting rod bearing into the connecting rod cap use clean engine oil for lubricating its bearing surface before installation. Install the connecting rod cap together with the bearing then torque the connecting rod nuts to 35 - 41 Nm (26 - 30 ft. lbs.). Repeat the torque specification to tighten the rod nuts after loosening them two or three turns.
