2002 Ford Mustang Cruise Control Servo Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the cruise control servo on 2002 Ford Mustang?
A: Service and repair of the cruise control servo begins with disconnecting the battery ground cable while carefully handling electronics modules to prevent static charge damage. The next step is to remove the left-hand wheel and tire before setting the left-hand front splash shield to the side by uninstalling the pin-type retainers and screws. First disconnect the speed control servo electrical connector after pressing its locking tab and rotate the speed control actuator cable cap to unlock it. Disconnect the speed control cable at the throttle nailhead and speed control actuator cable from the speed control servo pulley by gently pushing the retaining spring then removing the speed control cable slug. Remove the speed control servo after disconnecting all its components by uninstalling the bolts. Reverse the step of removal to install the equipment. Normal vehicle drive performance may be delayed after battery disconnect and reconnect because the vehicle adapts its strategy through driving at least 16 km (10 mi) to learn the new configuration.
