2002 Ford Thunderbird Radiator Support Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the front cross-member, specifically the radiator support on 2002 Ford Thunderbird?
A: The first step in repairing the radiator support on the front cross-member requires radiator support stabilization. Start the procedure by removing both stabilizer links then move onto the front wheel assemblies before popping out the front valance panel by uninstalling its bolts and pin-type retainer. The lower radiator air deflector should be removed by firstly unscrewing the bolt then removing the pin-type retainer. Remove the 10 bolts that hold the front cross brace before detaching the bolts to position the steering gear aside while discarding the lock nuts. The replacement of new cam bolts and lock nuts becomes necessary whenever removing these parts from the lower control arm. Lift out the four bolts which allow positioning of two lower control arms to the side while discarding the parts. The procedure requires removal of water control valve bracket bolts as well as power steering and A/C line bracket bolts followed by this step. Cap off the project by uninstalling the four bolts holding the radiator support crossmember then transfer essential components before installing everything in reverse order with correct torque values.
