2002 Lincoln Continental Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2002 Lincoln Continental?
A: You should start your work on the floor shift brake shift interlock actuator by removing the center console. Detach the ignition/shifter interlock cable both from the bracket and shifter interlock cam before you remove the LH lower instrument panel trim. First step is to remove nuts that secure the steering column before detaching the shift interlock electrical connector and unscrewing the screws. The service begins with removing the ignition/shifter interlock cable from its bracket before taking it completely out. Place the ignition/shifter interlock cable at its proper position before connecting it to both shifter interlock cam and bracket. The ignition/shifter interlock cable should be positioned into its bracket and the ignition/shifter cable bracket needs to be secured. Follow by connecting the electrical connector you should reposition the steering column then fasten the retaining nuts. The last step includes securing the LH lower instrument panel trim while testing the interlock function to confirm the key emerges from the ignition only when the transaxle range selector lever stays in PARK mode. Verification must also establish lever system automatic PARK locking when removing the key.
