2002 Lincoln LS Battery Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What safety precautions should be observed when servicing the battery cable on 2002 Lincoln LS?
A: The service of battery cables demands careful safety measures due to battery-produced explosive gases that can result in personnel injuries. The battery area requires a safe environment with proper ventilation alongside protection of your eyes and face since you should refrain from using lighted items and sparks or flames when working around the battery. Keep battery containers containing sulfuric acid beyond the reach of little children while also preventing battery contacts with any body parts or garments or eyes. The affected area requires a water flush for at least 15 minutes followed by immediate medical support for acid exposure cases. The process of taking out the battery cable begins by taking the battery out first. Start by removing the attachment nut securing the positive cable after detaching its cover from the Battery Junction Box (BJB). Next step is to remove the negative cable bolt. Pull away the harness clips which are present in the luggage compartment before you remove the rear seat cushion. First remove upper RH B-pillar trim panel, lower RH B-pillar trim cover and scuff plate screws. Start by removing the RH front and rear scuff plates followed by taking off the RH A-pillar lower trim panel for exposing the battery cable. Move the carpet to the side. Lift the cable past the seatback by removing retaining tie straps until it enters the passenger part of the vehicle. To get rid of the cable follow these actions - start by taking off the cover and nut situated at the dash through-bolt. Within the engine area remove the protective cover and the nut located at the dash panel then deal with the bolt situated at the body. First remove the right front wheel well splash shield followed by a removal of bolts attached to harness protective tubes. Remove the starter solenoid cable protective cover and then detach the nuts while extracting the cable. To install the component follow the reverse order of the uninstallation process.
