How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on 2002 Lincoln Navigator?

In order to service the automatic transmission shifter, take out the ignition switch lock cylinder and upper steering column shroud. Unscrew the electrical connector and take out the gearshift lever by throwing away the pin in it. When reinstalling, replace the pin with a new one, and use the same steps (here reversed) as the removal.
