How to service and repair the idler arm and bracket on 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis?

To perform maintenance on the idler arm and the idler bracket, jack up the vehicle and unscrew the necessary nuts, cotter pin and drag link. Unattach the idler arm and bracket and fit the new ones such that they are installed correctly. Re-fit the drag link and hold it with a washer, nut and cotter pin and then lower the vehicle.
