2003 Ford F-250 Super Duty Evaporator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the evaporator core without auxiliary climate control on 2003 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: Service of the evaporator core requires the ground cable battery disconnection for procedures using non-auxiliary climate control. A leak assessment of the evaporator core needs to happen before removal in case a leak exists. Start by taking off retainers and insulator for the 6.0L diesel engine before you detach the condenser to evaporator line spring lock coupling and require the disposal of O-ring seals. The service begins with removing the suction accumulator/drier followed by bracket reinstallation of the manifold absolute pressure sensor and bracket using nut removal steps for diesel engines and repeating this process for 5.4L and 6.8L vapor management valve and bracket assembly. Release the clamps on the intercooler tube of the diesel engine then extract the intercooler tube before taking out the screws holding the evaporator core housing support bracket. The three retaining tabs should release before using a screwdriver to remove the 11 screws of the evaporator core cover while the evaporator core is subsequently removed. To install the system start with the opposite order of removal while using cleaned O-ring seals lubricated by PAG oil and lubricate everything with proper amounts of PAG oil. Conclude the process by evacuating and testing for leaks followed by system charging.
