2003 Ford Mustang EGR Valve Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the EGR valve on the Cobra on 2003 Ford Mustang?
A: The initial step for servicing or repairing the EGR valve of a Cobra involves disconnecting both accelerator cable and speed control cable followed by removing the accelerator cable bracket bolts. Pushing the clip allows positioning the accelerator cable bracket and cables for adequate clearance. The service continues with electrical connector removal from the fuel pulse damper, EGR vacuum regulator solenoid, supercharger bypass vacuum solenoid and differential pressure feedback EGR system. The maintenance procedure requires detaching vacuum hoses that lead to the differential pressure feedback EGR system and the supercharger bypass vacuum solenoid, the actuator, the fuel pulse damper, and the EGR vacuum regulator solenoid, plus the vacuum hose from the EGR valve. Disconnect all vacuum hoses at the back of the supercharger then set the vacuum harness to the side. Unfasten the vacuum accessory bracket mounting nut and subsequently detach the mounting bolts and vacuum accessory bracket. First disconnect the exhaust manifold to EGR valve tube then remove its mounting bolts before taking out the EGR valve and discarding the EGR valve gasket. The installation should be conducted in reverse order following removal steps but a replacement gasket of the EGR valve must be used.
