2004 Ford E-150 Air Bag Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to prove out the air bag system and what should you observe regarding the air bag indicator on 2004 Ford E-150?
A: The air bag system should be tested by switching the ignition from OFF to RUN positioning with the air bag modules and belt and buckle assembly pretensioners installed to check the air bag indicator light. Operation of the air bag indicator should keep the display on continuously for six seconds before it shuts down completely. A SRS fault in the air bag supplemental restraint system affects the air bag indicator performance causing it to either fail to illuminate or stay lit continuously or flash when the ignition key goes to RUN position. This flashing phase may start thirty seconds after ignition when the restraint control module finishes SRS testing. A five-set pattern of five beeps will play through the chime while a buzzer alternates five-second ON and five-second OFF cycles when both the air bag indicator fails to function and an SRS fault exists. The air bag indicator needs repair prior to continuing diagnosis when this condition occurs.
