2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Shift Interlock Solenoid Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Brake Shift Interlock Solenoid on 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac?
A: The Brake Shift Interlock Actuator repair process starts by safening the operation through back up power supply depletion to avoid air bag system deployment. Take the battery ground cable off before waiting at least one minute and remove all auxiliary batteries and power supplies that exist in the vehicle. Start by removing the lower steering column finish panel using screw removal then placing the hood release handle out of the way. The finishing panel requires removing two screws before pushing it out to free its retaining clips so you can remove it. Start by taking out the five bolts that fix the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement. You must also remove the four nuts to allow lowering of the steering column. You must remove the three bolts to divide the insert plate and shift lock actuator from the steering column. Next disconnect the electrical connector and extract the insert plate with shift lock actuator. During installation you do not need to replace the shift lock actuator clip because it serves purely as an assembly aid. The finishing stage comprises executing all procedures in reverse order that were used during removal.
