2004 Ford Thunderbird Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Transmission Pan, gasket, and filter on 2004 Ford Thunderbird?
A: Start fluid pan gasket filter servicing by applying automatic transmission fluid to the filter seals followed by proper positioning of seals onto the filter. The transmission fluid pan gasket is reusable when cleaned properly since no damage is present it can be utilized again. Installation of a new transmission fluid filter must always occur first. Place the vehicle in neutral position on the hoist then systematically detach components starting from the end. The installation process follows backward steps from removal while you should fill the transmission with fluid at its proper level. First detach the connectors from the heated oxygen sensor (H02S) before extracting its wire retaining clip from the transmission pan rail on the right side. Detach the H02S connector from the transmission pan rail front section before placing it on the workstation. Reinstall the transmission fluid filter while relubricating its seals and then replace the filter element in the transmission pan. Then next secure the transmission fluid pan by setting its screws at first without full tightening. Begin by crisscrossing the screw installation and return the H02S connector to the transmission pan rail's front side. Attach H02S connectors while installing the sensor wire retaining clip on the right side of the transmission pan rail.
