2004 Lincoln Aviator Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shifter on 2004 Lincoln Aviator?
A: The initial step for transmission selector lever service or repair involves removing the center console only when replacing either the transmission range selector bezel or lever. Conduct the removal process following the provided instructions. You must begin by gently lowering the knob shroud and boot before removing the locating screw of the knob. The following step involves gently removing the horseshoe clip located at the back of the knob structure. The shift knob removal requires sliding the knob bezel upward so you can extract it from its slot but it is essential to notice when the shift knob spring detaches from its position in the shift rod pocket to keep it for reinstallation. Before mounting the shift knob spring make sure it is correctly placed inside the shift rod pocket. Place the shift knob on the shift rod before you pull the release button toward the outside position and finally install the shift knob bezel into the bottom of the shift knob as the retainer locks into place. Mount the horseshoe clip to the shift knob before you raise the knob shroud and boot until their built-in retainers take hold.
