  Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shifter on Lincoln Aviator?

  A: Two steps are required to service and repair the transmission selector lever: remove first the left and right console access panels. Remove the switch module from its position in the console finish plate before disconnecting its electrical connectors. Raise the bezel front to unhook it from the console finish plate before removing the screw from the piece and removing the finish panel while sliding the shift bezel through the finish panel aperture. After removing the rear half of the center console you should disconnect the Shift Cable from both transmission selector lever arm and transmission selector lever bracket before disconnection of the electrical connector. The installation requires tightening these two shifter bolts to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.) torque value before completing assembly. Follow the same process with the two right-side shifter bolts while securing them to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.) for reinstallation. The last step includes taking out the transmission selector lever assembly from the automotive piece before reinstalling it in the reverse order of removal.
