- Q: How to service and repair the front door window regulator on 2004 Lincoln LS?A: Service and repair of the front door window regulator begins with removing the front door trim panel as well as the water shield. The front window motors require initialization before and after motor removal from the regulator and through the sequence of new regulator or motor installations, new glass fittings or lubricant application to the window system. A new front window motor begins its operation in proportional up/down configuration until the initialization process takes place. To detach the door window glass from the front regulator clamps pass the bolts through the access holes then ease the glass movement from the clamps while keeping the glass stable before lowering the regulator all the way down to release the glass. The procedure for removing the door inner module assembly starts by disconnecting remote keyless entry keypad connectors if they are present followed by disconnecting the mirror electrical connector before releasing the locators from the inner door module assembly. Before removing the door start, separate the electrical connector for the door module and main wiring harness and then unscrew and remove the lower theft shield fastener together with its knob. When working on the driver door the actuating rod for the door lock cylinder requires detachment followed by the release of clips and actuator rod detachment from both front doors including the disconnecting of the optional door lock cylinder switch electrical connector. When the electrical connector gets disconnected you should remove the door latch screws then set aside the door latch. The procedure to install mirrors is the opposite order of removal. The front door window glass installation requires positioning the glass directly against the B-pillar until the glass mounting brackets correctly receive it while the glass is raised. Also support the glass until the window regulator reaches its full upright position before tightening the door regulator clamp bolts. Before attaching the inner door module bolts install the alignment dowels then secure first the bolts situated next to the alignment dowels.
