2004 Lincoln Town Car Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Transmission Pan, Gasket, and Filter on 2004 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The first step for servicing the fluid pan and gasket and filter on the vehicle is to set it to NEUTRAL gear on a hoist. Discharge the transmission fluid by taking off the transmission fluid pan bolts until the fluid empties before removing the bolts. Detach the transmission fluid filter and seal by gently pulling them down after removing both the transmission fluid pan along with its gasket. The transmission fluid pan needs cleaning while inspection checks should occur on its gasket and magnet. Before fitting the new filter operators need to carefully eliminate main control bore seal remnants with a tiny screwdriver while being cautious about damaging the bore region. A new filter together with a new seal should replace the existing ones when the service has resulted from contamination-related failure but otherwise the filter remains in use if contamination levels are minimal. Install new fluid filter and seal according to the design and place the pan magnet inside the transmission fluid pan. A transmission fluid pan gasket that remains intact can be used again after cleaning and proper inspection. After placing the transmission fluid pan with its gasket properly position the bolts for transmission fluid pan installation. When filling transmission with fluid use 4.7 liters (5 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid until fluid reaches proper filling level.
