2005 Ford Crown Victoria Automatic Transmission Shift Levers Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on the Column on 2005 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Start automatic transmission shift levers column shifter servicing by making sure the back up power supply is empty to prevent accidental air bag deployment and then disconnect the battery ground cable for one minute while taking down each auxiliary power supply and battery if necessary. Start the procedure by taking out the screw securing the lower steering column opening finish panel after moving the parking brake release handle to the proper position and then remove another screw to release the retaining clips. Then proceed to take out the five screws that hold the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement while rotating the ignition switch lock cylinder to the RUN position followed by using the lock cylinder release pin before removing it. Remove the lower steering column shroud after unscrewing its four attachments followed by the removal of the upper steering column shroud. The first step involves disconnecting the transmission control switch (TCS) harness connector while separating the TCS harness from its locators before detaching the automatic transmission shift lever cover from the steering column. When performing this task you must replace the discarded automatic transmission shift lever pin along with removing the automatic transmission shift lever. The project completion requires following the removal steps in reverse order.
