Before starting service or repair on the automatic transmission shift levers for column shifter, disconnect the battery ground cable while waiting for a minimum of one minute. Also, disconnect all auxiliary batteries and power supplies. The first step includes unscrewing both parts of the lower steering column opening panel, then moving the parking brake release handle before unscrewing the panel screw while gently pulling outward to detach its retaining clips.
