2005 Ford Crown Victoria Camshaft Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the camshaft on 2005 Ford Crown Victoria?
A: Service and repairs on the camshaft must start by preventing rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft while removing timing chains and installing cylinder heads because this action will damage valves and pistons severely. Start with the removal of camshaft roller followers until you finish with the timing chain. The service order now calls for bolt removal from the camshaft sprocket and spacer before you start removing the 13 camshaft bearing cap bolts and the camshaft bearing cap ladders. Take extreme care when taking out the camshaft from its position in the cylinder head. Engine oil lubrication of both the camshaft journals and bearing cap ladders is necessary before inserting the camshaft onto the cylinder head. Start by placing the camshaft bearing caps before tightening their bolts with loose tension followed by tightening in the correct installation order. Secure the camshaft sprocket with its spacer on top before adding the bolt while ending with installation of timing chains and roller followers.
