2005 Ford E-150 Timing Cover Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Engine Front Timing Cover on 2005 Ford E-150?
A: Services and repairs on the engine front cover start with hoisting the vehicle using a transmission-neutral position then unplug the battery ground cable. The service requires removing both valve covers alongside the radiator and the coolant pump and the crankshaft front seal. Start by unhurting the power steering pump through top and lower bolts to place it aside then remove the wiring harness from the bracket before losing the retaining nut and disconnecting the tubes while taking off the bracket. To start the procedure remove the drain plug and disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector first and then remove the four front oil pan bolts. You must disconnect the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor electrical connector before removing the bolt to detach accessory drive belt idler pulley followed by the remaining bolts. The sealing surfaces require plastic scraping tool cleaning while using only plastic tools to avoid metal scrapers or abrasives then the engine front cover and its gasket can be removed. Silicone gasket remover and metal surface prep will clean the mating surfaces before inspection takes place. The installation process begins with placing the engine front cover gasket correctly on the engine front cover followed by application of silicone gasket and sealant on both the cylinder head-to-cylinder block and oil pan-to-cylinder block surfaces and finally attaching the engine front cover with loose bolts. The fastener installation for the engine front cover should proceed in two stages where you first tighten fasteners 1 through 5 to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) then continue with fasteners 6 through 15 to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Fit the accessory drive belt idler pulley next to its position before installing the bolt and connecting the CMP electrical connector. Tighten the bolts in a two-step process to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) followed by an additional 60 degrees torque. After installation of the CKP sensor electrical connector complete the procedure by reattaching the bracket along with tubes and tightening the retaining nut. Reinstall the wiring harness to the bracket followed by power steering pump placement without using the front lower hole and bolt installation. Add the oil drain plug before installing a new crankshaft front seal followed by the valve covers and coolant pump and radiator and fill the engine with fresh oil before reattaching the battery ground cable.
