2005 Ford E-250 Drive Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Rear Two-Piece Drive Shaft on 2005 Ford E-250?
A: Service and repair jobs on the rear two-piece driveshaft begin by properly raising the vehicle while it remains supported. Mark the driveshaft according to the pinion flange on the rear axle followed by removing four bolts that disconnect and remove the rear driveshaft section. The support brackets installed on the coupling shaft need removal at that point while keeping the parking brake active. When servicing E-450 models it is necessary to disconnect the coupling shaft bolts from the parking brake assembly through the removal of four U-joint retainer bolts. Requires a new parking brake assembly output flange then you should disconnect the assembly from the coupling shaft. Place the driveshaft according to its index marks before attaching U-joint caps and bolts then release the parking brake. After supporting the coupling shaft position the center bearing and bracket before threading in the center bearing bracket bolts. Begin with installing the rear driveshaft section while aligning its index marks then fasten all four driveshaft-to-rear axle bolts after you seal the threads of original bolts when new ones cannot be used. Shifting to the last phase involves both support removal and lowering the vehicle.
