2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the clutch master cylinder and reservoir on 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: A complete removal of the clutch hydraulic system as an assembly becomes necessary before servicing the clutch master cylinder and reservoir because the master cylinder only accepts service through this method. Start the clutch hydraulic tube service by taking it off from the dash clip. Set the vehicle in neutral, then hoist it up and follow this order to extract the clutch slave cylinder from the transmission while counterclockwise twisting and compressing its components. The clutch slave cylinder and hydraulic tube should sit in front of the left engine bank below the floor pan clipped tube. This positioning decreases hydraulic tube tension which in turn allows easier release of the clutch master cylinder from its clamp on the pedal and bracket components. After the vehicle lowers position and before clip release you must observe how the clutch pedal maintains its spring tension. Discard the clutch master cylinder push rod bushing after removing it and uninstall the switch cover along with the clutch pedal position switch from the push rod. The power distribution box needs to be detached from its bracket so the technician can access the clutch master cylinder to remove this component from the clutch pedal and support bracket by first compressing and twisting it clockwise by 45 degrees. Feel free to exercise caution since brake fluid damages both painted surfaces and plastic materials and requires immediate water cleaning of the affected area. Installation of the new clutch master cylinder needs the clutch pedal position switch flat side facing the master cylinder tab while the wiring connector must be at the 12 o'clock position to both prevent damage and achieve proper clutch pedal travel. Reverse the removal steps but maintain awareness that the push rod stays permanently inside the system upon finalization of the installation. Take a new push rod with a bushing and press the clutch pedal to let the push rod insert properly inside the master cylinder before testing if all functions work correctly.
