2005 Ford Focus Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on 2005 Ford Focus?
A: The automatic transmission shifter service requires you to start by taking out the floor console. First set the selector lever to "P" position and then remove the selector lever cable followed by its outer sleeve. Disengage the electrical connector from the selector lever assembly before you can uninstall it by removing its four nuts. Thread locking compound should be applied to the nuts before installing the selector lever assembly while the four nuts serve to secure it. Reconnect the electrical connector which belongs to the selector lever assembly. You can avoid holding the selector lever since it includes its dedicated detent function during selector cable installation. Clamp the selector lever outer sleeve into position while shifting the selector lever to "P" mode followed by inserting the selector lever cable then tightening it. Reposition the floor console followed by system readjustment after its reinstallation.
