2005 Ford Freestyle Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the alternator on 2005 Ford Freestyle?
A: The alternator servicing process begins by positioning the vehicle on a hoist under neutral mode with the battery disconnected. The accessory drive belt tensioner should be rotated counterclockwise while you set the accessory drive belt to the side. The service and alternator repair process requires retainer removal of both 8 pin-type components and the right lower splash shield. First disconnect the crankshaft position sensor before letting go of the 2 wiring harness locators attached to the generator splash shield. The next step involves taking off the lower boot pin-type retainer and elevating the boot before unfastening the generator electrical connector. After folding the boot you must set aside the protective cover before taking out the generator B+ nut and terminal while consciously tightening it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during reinstallation. The 3 generator nuts and stud bolts should be replaced by 3 specified bolts (W709986-S437) during installation procedures. Disconnect and remove the generator nuts and stud bolts first and use the new generator bolts or nuts to tighten them to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) while tightening generator stud bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). For the final step complete generator installation by returning to the initial removal procedures while discarding the generator shield then the generator itself.
